JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – A mere five months after Food City opened its doors, construction is underway once again. Two restaurants, Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, and Pal’s will soon be part of the growing retail development.
Tonya Smith calls the new retail additions a major coup for the community.
“More jobs and more opportunities for the community, and of course, we live near here so it’s great to just walk to the grocery store,” Tonya Smith said.
City leaders say construction of two brand new restaurants here in front of this Food City on West State of Franklin is just the beginning of what is to come for this area.
“You can have more restaurants, you could have any kind of retail out there, so we will just have to wait and see,” Angie Carrier said.
Angie Carrier with Johnson City Development Services says this stretch of road going towards Interstate 26 is a high traffic area. The more traffic, the more people willing to stop and invest in businesses.
“You look at patterns and traffic, and medical center and where people live so people drive by those areas therefore that is where the retail will develop,” Carrier said.
Pals will look at little different because of building restrictions the life-size food on top of the restaurant will be made out of brick.
the company tells me it has put in a special request with a brick sculptor in Nebraska to make it happen and work on the brick food has already begun.
Freddy’s is expected to open in July. As for Pal’s, a company spokesperson says they plan on starting construction next month.
