JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -ETSU Coach Steve Forbes has another big reason to want his team to the Southern Conference Championship game Monday night.
We obtained his contract and found ETSU will pay out performance incentives tied to tonight’s game.
If the Bucs win the Southern Conference regular season championship, Forbes will receive $10,000.
That win would earn the Bucs a spot in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and make Forbes eligible for a $25,000 performance incentive bonus.
Forbes’ contract which took effect March 30, 2015 and continues through April 1, 2020 says the Coach will earn an additional $25,000 for each NCAA Tournament win.
The incentives reveal the value universities place on an appearance in “The Big Dance” when people across the nation – many who don’t regularly follow basketball – fill out brackets and watch teams play on national television.
In a previous report, News Channel 11 revealed Forbes’ contract comes with a potential for more than $80,000 in incentives in addition to $240,000 in annual salary and stipends as well as two country club memberships.
The game starts at 9 p.m..
