BRISTOL, Tenn. – In the final installment of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Regional Rankings, the King University men’s basketball team moved up one spot. The Tornado are second in this week’s regional rankings, behind Lincoln Memorial University.
King split a pair of contests to end the regular season and jumped Queens University in the rankings this week. Queens checked in a third this week, followed Columbus State University at fourth and Montevallo University at fifth. As the top seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament, the Tornado defeated eighth seed North Greenville University on Tuesday night to reach the semifinals.
The Tornado average 12.1 three-point baskets per game, a mark that ranks third in all of NCAA Division II. King leads the country with 352 total three-point baskets this season and the Tornado rank second with 287 steals on the defensive end. Their average of 9.9 steals per game ranks fourth in the nation.
In the Southeast Region, the Tornado are 6-1 against team that have been regionally ranked this season, handing #1 Lincoln Memorial one of their two losses on the season. The Tornado lead the region in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score 67.9 points per game. King holds opponents to a 39.8 field goal percentage, a mark that leads the region.
As the top seed, King will host the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals and final on Saturday and Sunday. The Tornado square off with the University of Mount Olive on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex.
This was the final reginal rankings that will be released. The top eight teams in the southeast region will qualify for the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. The selection show will be on Sunday night at 10:30 p.m.
