KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Sixteen varsity athletic head coaches for the University of Tennessee held a joint press conference on Tuesday. Here are some top moments.
The coaches refrained from talking about the lawsuit facing the university. However, the coaches wanted to address the campus culture. Many of them spoke of the support of their co-workers and student athletes.
Women’s Golf Coach Judy Pavón mentioned her athletes’ reaction to the lawsuit.
Women’s Soccer Coach Brian Pensky responded after Pavón. The coaches are continuing to do the things they have always done for the athletes.
Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach Matt Kredich believes the university is a leader for treating women fairly. Coaches voiced over and over again about training conditions for female athletes.
Football Head Coach Butch Jones spoke of the defending the culture of university. He believes that people forget college athletes are not professionals. They are teenagers and in their early 20s.
Many of the coaches spoke of being like parents to the athletes and teaching them about good choices.
