(WJHL) – The Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office has added four new SUVs to its fleet. The purchase was made possible, in part, by a $30,000 grant the county received from the United States Department of Agriculture.
That money paid for one of the vehicles and the sheriff’s department and county had to match the rest. The SUVs are lettered and ready to hit the road.
“The purchase of new police vehicles will enable Unicoi’s sheriff’s department to better serve its residents,” Goode said. “Patrol and roadside assistance where safety is a concern is just one of the many reasons why investments in law enforcement are of high importance to our rural communities.”
Unicoi County is one of 53 counties in Tennessee designated for support under USDA’s StrikeForce for Rural Growth and Opportunity initiative.
