SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA/WNCN) — Spartanburg County Deputies have charged Akello Chinara Jeter with murder in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend Autumn Hunt after they say he confessed.
Investigators say that 20-year-old Jeter confessed to being involved in the murder and was able to provide details that only the murderer would have known and the location of additional evidence.
19-year-old Autumn Rayne Hunt went missing on February 3rd, after leaving her home on the East side of Spartanburg.
The coroner says Autumn died from a gunshot wound to the head. Deputies say they found Autumn’s black 2003 Jeep Liberty burned behind the abandoned Bi-Lo on Reidville Road on Feb. 8.
Her body was found on Sims Chapel Road in the Arkwright community the evening of February 11.
Autumn placed first in the photogenic competition of the 2014 Miss South Carolina Teen pageant, according to the Miss South Carolina Teen website and her Facebook page.
In addition to pursuing a modeling career, Autumn was a cashier and worked at the deli counter at Bi-Lo at Hillcrest. She was involved with the JROTC program at Spartanburg High, the school said.
Jeter is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime. It was revealed in court Friday that Jeter is the ex-boyfriend of Autumn.
Deputies say that Alfred Caldwell, who was arrested alongside Jeter for armed robbery has been completely cleared of any involvement in the murder.
During a bond hearing Friday for an armed robbery charge for Alfred Caldwell and Akello Jeter it was revealed in a search warrant that a .40 caliber Glock handgun matched shell casings found next to Autumn’s body.
Jeter is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond.
