WILSON, N.C. – In one of the biggest games of the season to this point, the King University men’s basketball team put together a well-rounded effort on Tuesday night at Barton College to extend their lead atop the Conference Carolinas standings. The Tornado got 22 points for C.J. Good and had an answer for the Bulldogs all night as they took the contest 78-68.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Mack Owens tallied the first bucket of the game, but the Bulldogs answered with an 8-0 run to gain an 8-2 advantage four minutes in.
-Mikquell Jackson and Calvin Walker then teamed up for consecutive baskets to pull the Tornado back within two.
-James Scales evened the score at 10-10 and Hunter LeVeau gave the lead back to King with a triple eight minutes in at 13-12.
-However, the Bulldogs answered with a triple, but Scales went coast-to-coast following the make for a layup that evened the tally at 15-15.
-The score was again even at 17-17 when Good and LeVeau drilled back-to-back three-point baskets to give King a 23-17 lead with nine minutes left in the half.
-Je’Don Young added a layup to make it an 8-0 run for the Tornado.
-Good hit a triple and hit a pair of free throws to give King their largest lead of the half at 32-21 before the Bulldogs scored eight of the final 10 points of the half, making the halftime score 34-29 in favor of the Tornado.
-Barton’s Tyler Thayer knocked down a three-point basket to start the second half, but Jackson made a pair of free throws and Good drilled a trifecta to stretch the King lead back to seven.
-Following another Thayer triple, Owens sparked an 8-0 Tornado run that was capped by a LeVeau four-point play that gave King a 47-35 lead four minutes into the second half.
-The Bulldogs scored eight of the next 10 points, cutting their deficit to six points, but the Tornado had an answer as Scales made a fastbreak layup and Good drilled a triple, stretching the Tornado lead back to 56-45 midway through the frame.
-King held the lead of nine points or better the rest of the way, gaining their largest advantage of the game at 78-63 in the final minute as the Tornado took the contest 78-68.
-Good led the Tornado with 22 points, knocking down six triples on the night.
-LeVeau followed with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
-Scales chipped in with 10 points while Derick Pope chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
-Thayer led the Bulldogs with 15 points.
-Daniel Westbrook added 14 points and nine rebounds.
-The Bulldogs shot 47.8 percent from the floor, but the King forced 22 Barton turnovers.
-King will be in action again on Saturday when they host Limestone College at 4:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex. Saturday will also be Senior Day as King will honor their seven seniors.
-Saturday is also Brest Cancer Awareness day in the Student Center Complex as there will be t-shirts and cupcakes for sale with proceeds going towards breast cancer research.
-Barton travels to Emmanuel College on Saturday.
