Hawkins Co. pair charged after lengthy drug investigation

HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man and a woman on numerous charges Tuesday, following an investigation into methamphetamine distribution.

According to a HCSO news release, the sheriff’s office’s narcotics unit received complaints that Shannon Todd Coffey, 45, of Whitesburg, was involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in August 2015.

An investigation revealed that Coffey had been arrested in Georgia on drug and weapons offenses, which included possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm during the commission of Georgia controlled substances violations.

Over the last three months, HCSO narcotics officers were also able to make several controlled drug buys from Coffey, which allowed for officers to obtain a warrant to search his home.

According to the release, officers found several controlled substances packaged in separate baggies. The baggies contained around two ounces of methamphetamine in the “ice” form, Oxycodone tablets, Buprenorphine tablets and Clonazepam tablets.

Several baggies, electronic scales and glass pipes were also found.

Officers also located a loaded .45 caliber pistol and around $7,000 in money.

The drugs seized had a street value of around $6,500.

According the release, an investigation revealed that Coffey was a convicted felon for various drug violations in 2008-2009 for attempted manufacture of methamphetamine, promotion of methamphetamine and possession of schedule II with intent to deliver.

Coffey was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of schedule II with intent to deliver, possession of schedule III with intent to deliver, possession of schedule IV with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a dwelling for drug use and possession of firearm during commission of a felony.

He was being held in the Hawkins County Jail on $200,000 bond.

Crystal Gail Cody, 38, also of Whitesburg, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of schedule II with intent to deliver, possession of schedule III with intent to deliver, possession of schedule IV with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a dwelling for drug use and possession of firearm during the commission of a felony.

Cody was being held in the Hawkins County Jail on $100,000 bond.
