Hands On! talks possible relocation with tourism commissioner

Leaders Hands On! are considering a new location outside of Johnson City.

Hands On! Regional Children’s Museum talked relocation with Tennessee’s Tourism Development Commissioner Monday morning.

Commissioner Kevin Triplett made a stop in Johnson City Monday morning during a statewide tour.

During his stop, the director of Hands On! talked with Triplett about the possibility of moving the museum to East Tennessee State University’s Gray Fossil Site.

Hands On’s director sited several problems with the building as reasons behind the move.

Those issues include lack of parking and outdated infrastructure.

“For instance we had a valve go out in our heating system about a month ago and we went about 3 and half weeks during a really cold time without any heat. and obviously that impacts people’s comfort in the museum,” said Hands On! Director Andy Marquart.

Marquart said he is hopeful it will be able to begin the move soon.
