Oak Ridge — Top-100 junior wide receiver Tee Higgins of Oak Ridge (Tenn.) High School announced Thursday night on his Twitter account that he has decommitted from Tennessee.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Higgins was the Vols’ lone early commitment for the 2017 class. He’s ranked the nation’s No. 39 overall prospect and No. 7 wide receiver and the No. 3 junior from Tennessee in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class.
Higgins visited Clemson last weekend along with fellow Knoxville-area standout Amari Rodgers, a Top247 wide receiver from Knoxville Catholic High School.
Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State are among the other teams that have extended scholarship offers to Higgins.
With offers to play both football and basketball in college, Higgins tweeted that he’s “re-opening my recruitment for basketball and football,” adding that “Tennessee is not out of the conclusion and I consider them a priority.” But he added that he needs “to look at other opportunities” in hopes of making “the best decision.”
