Knoxville police attempt to identify burned bodies in crash

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Investigators are attempting to identify two severely burned bodies after a horrific crash.

Knoxville Police Department said the crash happened in the 3200 block of Skyline Drive, at around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a car traveling at a high-rate of speed crashed into a utility pole, downing electric wires and causing the car to catch on fire.

Skyline Drive was closed in both directions for several hours while Knoxville Utility Board crews worked to fix the two downed power lines, but has reopened. According to a preliminary investigation, police said the vehicle went off to the right side of the road causing the driver to over-correct, spinning the vehicle into a utility pole.

The people inside the car were both killed. Knoxville police said they will continue to investigate.
