WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Commissioners in Washington County will soon discuss a proposal to defy the Supreme Court of the United States.
Commissioner Forrest Boreing says he has proposed the resolution that would call on state lawmakers to uphold the Tennessee Constitution, which declares marriage between a man and a woman.
In June 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was a right granted under the U.S. Constitution.
Sullivan, Greene and Johnson counties have already passed similar measures.
The Washington County commission will discuss the proposal January 25th.
