SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said a inmate who was transported to a local hospital after complaining of chest pains tried to escape police custody.

According to a SCSO news release, Christopher M. Light, 43, of Kingsport, was taken to Indian Path Medical Center to get checked after he complained of chest pains.

While at Indian Path, a deputy was putting Light back in handcuffs when Light started to fight the deputy and tried to grab his firearm.

Light was unable to grab the firearm, but did grab the deputy’s chemical spray, which had fallen during the fight.

According to the release, Light then tried to spray the deputy, a nurse and a security guard, but the deputy was able to put handcuffs back on Light.

He was then taken back to the Sullivan County Correctional Facility.

The deputy and a nurse at the hospital received minor injuries during the fight and Light has since been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and attempted escape.

Light was previously booked into the correctional facility on Jan. 9 after his arrest by Kingsport Police Department on aggravated robbery charges.
