MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2016) – After winning 14 games in 2014-15, the No. 24 Milligan College women’s basketball team eclipsed its cumulative win total from last season and continued its unbeaten streak at home with a 72-65 win over Reinhardt University Wednesday night at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Milligan extended their home win streak to seven as the Buffs improved to 15-4 on the season (9-1 AAC). Reinhardt fell to 8-12 overall (5-5 AAC). Milligan also retained its first-place spot in the AAC and now has a game and a half lead over the rest of the conference.
With back-to-back three’s from junior Lindsee Price to end the first half and two steals in less than 30 seconds from senior Allison Jones to start the third quarter, the Buffs pushed their lead to double digits and increased it to 16, the largest of the game.
But the Lady Eagles would not go down without a fight. Reinhardt pulled within single digits five times in the course of seven minutes. In the final 40 seconds of the game, back-to-back 3-pointers from Reinhardt’s Erika Woodfin and freshman Jada Hubbard put the Lady Eagles within three. The Buffs outlasted the final push of Reinhardt to take the victory, 72-65.
Wednesday’s win gave Milligan the second sweep of the season, after beating Midway University twice in early November. The Buffs will have two more opportunities in the upcoming week to pick up two more sweeps against St. Andrews University and Tennessee Wesleyan College, which they defeated in November, as well.
Jones led the Buffs in scoring with a game-high 19 points, followed by Sarah Robinson with 15 and Price with 13. Robinson and Price also led Milligan in rebounds with seven apiece, and Price added five assists.
Reinhardt was led in scoring by sophomore Sara Byers with 16 points and Kateca Favors with 14. Favors also recorded the game’s only double-double as she led the Lady Eagles in rebounds with 12.
Next up, Milligan travels to St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina, for a 12 p.m. showdown with the Lady Knights on Saturday, Jan. 16. The Buffs then return home on Thursday, Jan. 21, for a 5:30 p.m. game against Tennessee Wesleyan College, with the men’s games to follow both times.
