NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police said Wednesday night a Nashville man will serve lengthy sentence without parole in a federal prison after his child porn conviction.

Joseph Nichols, 31, was sentenced Monday to serve 18 years followed by lifetime supervision.

He pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography on Sept. 15, 2015 in a case investigated by Metro police’s Sex Crimes Division.

Nichols was on probation for an earlier state court conviction for possessing child porn and was required to register as a sex offender. He was also prohibited from obtaining Internet access on any computer without written permission from his probation officer.

However, police say Nichols admitted that soon after his conviction, he began using the Internet to download and collect “vast amounts of child pornography, which he also shared with others.”

According to a Metro police press release, “On March 31, 2011, detectives discovered Nichols was illegally collecting and distributing child pornography when they went to his residence to serve him with an outstanding warrant for violating the sex offender registration law. Nichols subsequently admitted that he had collected hundreds of thousands of images and videos of the sexual abuse of children and that he had traded this material with other like-minded individuals.”

Authorities say Nichols admitted he had a personal attraction to children ages 10 and 11 and even said he fondled two girls under the age of 3 while working on computers in their homes a few years earlier.

An analysis of Nichols’ computer reportedly found he had over 40,000 images and 160 videos of child porn, which included depictions of prepubescent children and violence.
