WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – For the second time, a controversial Washington County redistricting map is headed back to the county commission for a vote.
The committee working on the map met today to discuss map discrepancies that delayed last month’s vote.
A commissioner claimed the map up for vote was not the one the committee approved.
On Thursday, we learned one of the two changes was made because a piece of land was assigned to the wrong district and had to be corrected.
It’s still up for debate whether a district line that was moved was approved or not.
“That change had been made to an earlier map and so it had been discussed,” Commissioner Joe Wise said.
“I believe somebody said it was made on a previous map,” Commissioner Robbie Tester said. “But, that’s irrelevant really because the committee specifically voted to go away from that map and that was not re-discussed after that or anything.”
On Thursday, the committee approved the same map that was presented at December’s meeting, with one vote against it.
The full commission could vote on it at its meeting later this month.
