Former 1979 hostages in Iran to be compensated

(CNN) – The recently passed budget bill by congress includes compensation for Americans taken hostage in Iran back in 1979.

53 hostages will receive $10,000 for each day they were held captive.

Spouses and children will get a one-time payment of $600,000.

Only thirty-eight of the former hostages are still alive.

Around 150 people associated with the embassy hostage ordeal will be compensated.

Those hostages were held captive for 444 days, 36 years ago.
