BRISTOL, VA (AP) – Alpha Natural Resources announced they will continue to scale back on coal mining operations.
On Friday, more than 160 workers were told they were being laid off in both Virginia and West Virginia.
Alpha says a soft market for coal is the reason behind a reduced labor force.
In Virginia 25 workers were laid off in Tazewell County, along with workers at four West Virginia mines.
Alpha still plans to end operations at 23 different properties in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky as part of a bankruptcy restructuring.
