Negotiations underway for development of General Mills building

Back in June 2016, Summers-Taylor, Inc. entered into a sales contract with the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce to purchase the General Mills building, also known as the Model Mill, according to company president Grant Summers.

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Johnson City/Washington County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Gary Mabrey confirmed his organization has been in negotiation with Joe Baker and his family for development of the old General Mills building in Johnson City.

Baker developed Yee-Haw Brewing Company and helped land Tupelo Honey, both located within sight of the General Mills building.

“We have been having some serious conversations with the Bakers for the past several months,” Mabrey said. “We’re looking to get into more details after the first of the year, but we’re pleased with the way the conversation’s going right now.”

Mabrey said others were interested in the property, but discussions have only involved the Bakers.

He said the plan now is to renovate, re-purpose and preserve the old building.
