St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Johnson City has been selected as a pilgrimage site for parishioners during what Pope Francis has deemed the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
The celebration started this month and will last until November of 2016.
“With all of the conflicts that we have, that we are to show mercy. Each one of us by going through the door reminds us of the great love God has for us” said Deacon Mike Jacobs
Folks at St. Mary’s celebrated this event Sunday with a ceremony where they opened a “Door of Mercy” in the church’s Adoration Chapel. They said the door was compared to a gateway through which people can confirm their gratitude for the mercy shown by God and Jesus Christ.
