Milligan women remain perfect in AAC play

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Dec. 5, 2015) – Sarah Robinson led the Buffs with 19 points and 13 rebounds, the sixth double-double of her freshman season, as the Milligan College women’s basketball team remained perfect in Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a win over Montreat College, 89-78, at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

Milligan, who is currently receiving votes in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top-25 Poll, remained undefeated in AAC play as the Buffaloes improved to 5-0 in the AAC, 11-1 overall. Montreat fell to 3-5 overall, 2-2 in the AAC.

The Buffs were able to put the game away early as they won their fourth straight game by double digits over the Lady Cavaliers. Milligan put together a 15-7 run, led by junior Kelly Barnett, and a 17-10 run, led by Robinson, to put the game out of reach with a 49-28 lead at the half.

Montreat did not go down without a fight, though. The Lady Cavaliers erased an 18-point lead to pull within 10 with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter, but despite their efforts, could not overcome the Buffs as Milligan would take the victory.

Of the 11 players who saw playing time, Milligan put five players in double digits. Robinson led the Buffs with 19 points, her third straight game reaching double digit scoring, followed by Allison Jones with 17, Lindsee Price with 13, Barnett with 12 and Courtney Wilson with 11. Barnett was perfect from the field including 2-for-2 from three, only missing two free throws on the day.

The Buffs were led in rebounds by Robinson with 13. Jones led Milligan in steals with a career high six, and Andi Lamb led the team with a career high six assists.
Montreat’s Arianna Williams led the Lady Cavilers with a game-high 27 points, followed by Shannon Jackson with 19. Williams also led the Lady Cavilers in rebounds with nine.

The Buffs return to action on Saturday, Dec. 12, as they begin a two-game road trip against Bluefield College before the Christmas break. Milligan will return home on Saturday, Jan. 2, to host Union College as part of a women’s and men’s doubleheader.
