KINGSPORT, TN – Second Harvest Food Bank along with representatives from WCQR announced that Project Thanksgiving raised $161,484.00 to provide 6,459 boxes of food given out to people in need this Thanksgiving.
“Each one of these Thanksgiving boxes has a frozen turkey, all the trimmings, dressing, cranberry sauce, mac and cheese, beans, corn, rolls, desert, and they’re going to have a brand new bible,” says WCQR Program Director Mike Riddles, “so we’re excited because they’re going to be fed physically and spiritually.”
This is the eighth year of the partnership between 88.3 WCQR Radio and Second Harvest to provide a Thanksgiving meals for families and individuals in the region who may not otherwise have a Thanksgiving meal on their table. On November 12th, 88.3 WCQR Christian Radio hosted a successful all day on-air fundraiser asking their listeners as well as area businesses and churches to donate $25 to sponsor a Thanksgiving box of food. On November 13 and 14th over 600 volunteers gathered at the food bank to pack boxes. Food bank agencies picked up and distributed the boxes last week. At this point all boxes have been allocated or distributed.
