Man pleads guilty in murder-for-hire case involving Pennington Gap officer

PENNINGTON GAP, VA (WJHL) – A man who said he’d pay a confidential informant $20,000 to kill a Pennington Gap Police Department officer pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday.

Harold Owen pleaded guilty in an Abingdon courtroom to facility of interstate commerce to commit murder for hire and possessing a firearm in futherance of a crime of violence.

According to court documents filed back in February, Owen told an ATF confidential informant multiple times that an officer was “harassing him” and he wanted him “taken care of.”

Owen said the officer previously wrote him a ticket for reckless driving, which “ruined him.”

A federal judge will sentence Owen Feb. 8., 2016.
