Firefighters hand out 225 new coats for Operation Warm

Johnson City, TN (WJHL) – Hundreds of children will be able to fight off the cold this winter, thanks to the generosity of local firefighters.

The Johnson City Professional Firefighters Association handed out 225 brand new coats to children in the Coalition 4 Kids after school program Thursday afternoon.

This is the second year in a row Local 1791 has partnered with Operation Warm, a national non-profit organization that has the coats made at a factory in Alabama, then sells them to the International Firefighters Association at near-cost prices.

“This is a nice opportunity to see people where it’s a positive event,” says firefighter Avery Knapp, “so for us, it means a lot to our members, and we hope it means a lot to the community, too.”

Money for the coats are raised through L-1791 fundraising events, such as an upcoming concert at Freedom Hall. Lonestar and special guest Brent Rupard will take the stage at 8 pm on December 5th. Proceeds go towards their charitable events, such as Operation Warm, fire safety education, and the IAFF children’s burn camp. For information on tickets, call 423.282.1257.
