JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The attorney for the Johnson City man charged with shooting a woman in the face then killing another woman in a passing car is asking for a mental evaluation.
A judge arraigned 22-year-old Denver Smith earlier this week on charges including murder and attempted murder.
His preliminary hearing, which was set for today, is now delayed until the mental evaluation is returned.
Police say smith shot 24-year-old Chelsea Isbell outside of his Johnson City apartment early Friday morning after an argument, according to police.
Officers say Smith then ran down John Exum Parkway in Johnson City trying to flag down cars to get away.
When no one would stop he fired his gun into a car that happened to be passing by killing 19-year-old Tiaria Miller, according to police.
