COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Breast cancer is a devastating diagnosis, but nothing about the disease is “one size fits all.”
Patients are being diagnosed and treated unlike ever before.
You’d never know Annie Duane was diagnosed with metastic breast cancer. There’s no cure, but she lives with the disease, taking targeted drugs that seek out the cancer without horrible side effects.
The drugs are the latest and greatest in the fight against breast cancer, according to Dr. Rachel Reinbolt from Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center.
We’re starting to do more genetic testing on the tumors themselves and learning what drives that breast cancer and how do we target it and go after it,” Said Reinbolt.
Annie Duane takes two drugs, targeted therapies that go after cancer cells.
Watch NBC4 at 6 a.m. and continuing through the day on NBC4 and nbc4i.com as Ellie Merritt shows how new treatments are transforming how patients live with cancer.
