Erroneous JCPB bills sent to more than 3,000 customers

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Some Johnson City Power Board customers were sent incorrect bills for more than a year’s worth of service.

The electric utility said 3,078 customers were billed for 427 days of service from June 27 to July 28, 2015. In a news release, customers were told to ignore those bills. Affected customers are in JCPB’s billing cycle 14.

The incorrect bills were blamed on a software error.

Corrected bills should arrive within a few days.

Johnson City Power BoardJCPB announced these erroneous bills Monday via news release and a post on Facebook.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and as a result, we are extending a seven day grace period for payment without penalty for billing cycle 14 customers,” JCPB Public Affairs Director Tim Whaley said in the news release. “We take data security and data accuracy extremely seriously and will be conducting a complete review with our billing vendor to guard against future errors of this nature.”
