Abingdon Police search for man wanted out of Lee County, Va.

ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) – Abingdon, Va. Police Department officers are currently searching for a Marion, Va. man following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to an APD news release, officers were called to the 800 block of West Main Street around 2:30 p.m. in reference to the crash and learned that one of the drivers involved was wanted in Lee County, Va. on a failure to appear charge.

Officers reportedly attempted to arrest Joseph Matthew Hess, 39, but Hess left the scene in a rented 2015 Chevrolet Camaro convertible.

The Camaro is white with a tan top and Hess was seen headed westbound on West Main Street.

He is wanted on the failure to appear charge out of Lee County, Va., as well as additional charges that are pending in Abingdon, Va.

Anyone with information on Hess’ whereabouts is asked to call Washington County, Va. Dispatch at 276-676-6277.
