Bristol, TN (WJHL) – Walkers, runners and even a few pets took the track tonight to support the Speedway Children’s Charity at the sixth annual Speedway In Lights 5K held at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Thousands gathered at the starting line to show their support, and to also have a good time while doing it. Lots of folks dressed up for the event. There were elves and the Grinch and don’t forget the reindeer. Even jolly ole St. Nick made and appearance. There was also a bluegrass band providing the entertainment.
“This is a fun run too. There are some serious runners but lots of family and lots of children. We have kids in strollers.” said Claudia Byrd, Executive Director of Speedway Children’s Charities.
“It’s a great community activity and a lot of fun, and kind of kick off for us to start the holiday season.”
Byrd said that every penny that is raised with this event goes back to help non-profit children’s organizations in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Byrd also said if you didn’t make it out this year you should definitely make plans to come next time. It’s a chance to have a good time for a good cause.
