Contest underway to pick 2015 Turkey Trot Grand Marshall

Registration and packet pickup at the Memorial Park Community Center takes place from 10 am through 8 pm.

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)  Want your child to be the Grand Marshall of the 2015 Johnson City Turkey Trot?

Get out the crayons, and get creative.

To celebrate the 10th running of Johnson City’s Thanksgiving morning race and fun-run through downtown and the Tree Streets neighborhood, organizers decided to celebrate the silently faithful event mascot.

For the past decade, it’s just been called “Turkey.” The gigantic bird’s past – mysterious at best.

So this year, organizers want school-aged children to download and print out a picture of the mascot, color it, and write a short story about the famous bird including “Turkey’s” real name.
