ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Authorities say a body recovered from the French Broad River belongs to one of two missing Buncombe County women.
Asheville Police Chief Tammy Hooper tells local media outlets searchers pulled the body of 22-year-old Alexandra King from the water Thursday.
Hooper says teams resume their search Friday for 20-year-old Tatianna Diz.
Divers and crews using sonar equipment concentrated efforts on a section of river near where a car use by the women was found abandoned with blood inside and a bullet hole in a headrest.
The women had been missing since the night of Oct. 27, when they left their home to give a man a ride to apartments nearby. Police say that man, charged with fatally shooting a man that same night, is a suspect in the women’s disappearance.
