SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) – Dogs and their human companions are marking New York state’s new law allowing dogs into outdoor

dining areas at restaurants.

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said local residents and business owners will be bringing their dogs to the outdoor patio of a

downtown Schenectady restaurant on Monday to celebrate the new law.

Under the measure recently signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, restaurants may choose whether or not to allow canines into

their outdoor dining areas. Eateries who do allow dogs will have to comply with new sanitary and health regulations that are

included in the law.

Supporters say it will give restaurants a way to appeal to dog-owning customers while ensuring public health and safety.
