Inmates are making a difference by turning old bikes into new

PRINGFIELD, S.D. (AP) – Inmates at a South Dakota prison are feeling the power. Each year the prisoners refurbish about 1,300

bikes as part of the Pedal Power from the Pen program. The bikes are given to law enforcement agencies and nonprofits to be

donated back to communities. Warden Bob Dooley says bikes are also given to kids visiting inmate parents at the Springfield

prison. Dooley tells the Daily Republic inmates participating in the program feel like they’re making a difference.
