Big changes are coming to the Coalition For Kids in Johnson City over the next few months.
First of all came the news that the organization will be moving from its current location in the Rock Community Center to the former Tri-Cities Christian School location on Susannah St. in Johnson City. There is still some demolition to be completed on the site, so it will be a few months before Coalition For Kids can actually move in the location. They will be utilizing both the school facility and the gym as Cindy Young with Coalition For Kids tells us, “It is a great facility, it is the old Tri-Cities Christian building on Susannah St.”
But the first big event is coming up on Nov. 11-13. The KaBoom! organization will be building a new $85,000 playground at the facility. Nov. 11 is the set up day and the actual day of construction will be Friday, Nov. 13 and the Coalition For Kids is looking for volunteers to help with the construction.
Cindy Young is organizing the KaBoom! Playground Project for Coalition For Kids, “What we’re asking the community to do is to come together and help us build this. We need 200+ volunteers, we’ll feed you breakfast, we will feed them lunch if they will come out and help us.”
KaBoom! has previously built other playgrounds in the area including ones at Rise Up and the Boys & Girls Club. Young says all types of volunteers are needed, “You don’t need any construction experience what-so-ever, we need folks from delivering water to the wheel-barrows to mix the concrete to people that can hammer a nail, that can lift a board, that can carry things, so you don’t need any type construction experience at all.”
People can register to be a volunteer on the Coalition For Kids Facebook page of call Cindy Young at Coalition Fir Kids at 423-434-2031.
