(WAVY) –  Police in Williamsburg are investigating the rape of a teenage girl.

The victim told police she was with friends at Quarterpath Park the evening of June 8. While there, the girl walked into the woods with a teenage boy. That’s when she told police a group of boys and one man approached them.

Police say two of them sexually assaulted her while another filmed the incident with a cell phone. According to Major Greg RIley with the Williamsburg Police Department, the victim did not immediately report the assault.

“She was a little reluctant and confused at first and sought out advice from somebody else and that’s how law enforcement was initially notified.” He explained that is why it was York-Poquoson Sheriff Deputies who first took the report, but the case was quickly handed back to Williamsburg Police.

Police say in all, five people were identified as suspects. Four of them are underage. They were all arrested over this past weekend.

Two juveniles are charged with rape and possession of child pornography. A third juvenile is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, a fourth juvenile, the one with whom the victim walked into the woods, is charged with two counts of accessory before the fact for rape as well as possession of child pornography.

The fifth person has been identified as 20-year-old Korey Alexander Gemmiti of James City County. He is charged with one count production of child pornography. Maj. Riley says that means Gemmiti is identified as the person who initially recorded the rapes. He is also charged with three counts of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Police say Gemmiti is out-of-town and they are giving him the opportunity to turn himself in later this week. Maj. RIley says he is in frequent contact with Gemmiti’s attorney.

When asked why it took several months after the victim reported the crime for police to take the suspects into custody, Maj. Riley WAVY.com “This was a fairly complicated case as you can see there were five different suspects to interview and that consisted of multiple interviews. As you would go from one suspect to another, and find out some different facts and have to go back and confirm those things.”
