MCJROTC holds ceremony to dispose of tattered flag

JONESBOROUGH, TN (WJHL) – When an American flag becomes tattered and torn, it must be properly disposed of.

Today, the Daniel Boone High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC did just that.

The organization took part in a flag retirement ceremony at the Jonesborough Post Office.

They disposed of the post office’s flag according the rules set forth by the National Flag Foundation.

One of the MCJROTC members told us why the ceremony is so special to her.

“Getting to be a part of it is a great honor,” said Tashina Roberts, Executive Officer of the MCJROTC program at Daniel Boone High School. “Getting to watch it has always been a great honor. I’ve come a couple times before I was in the program and watched it and it’s always been something really special.”

The Jonesborough Flag Committee along with the JROTC retires more than one thousand American flags every year.
