Church Hill man sentenced to 35 years on charges of aggravated sexual battery of a child

CHURCH HILL, TN (WJHL) – A Church Hill man will spend 35 years behind bars for aggravated battery of a child.

According to a news release from the Tazewell County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Charles Patton, Jr., 46, was sentenced to 40 years in prison with five years suspended, on two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a minor child.

Evidence found during the investigation revealed that Patton had sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 on more than one occasion.

Patton admitted to the charges and said they occurred in Cedar Bluff, Va.

He was incarcerated in December 2014.

“The family of Mr. Patton’s victim was relieved to know that Mr. Patton would be incarcerated for a significant period of time and would not be allowed to contact their family ever again,” Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Melanie B. Menefee said.
