Bands march across Spurrier Field for annual invitational competition

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)– Bands came from far and wide to participate in the third annual Hilltopper Invitational Marching Band Competition, hosted by Science Hill high school’s award-winning topper band.

Science Hill

21 dedicated bands took to the field to perform their musical shows– each bringing their own style to the gridiron. For some bands this was one of many competitions that they’ve competed in– but for the high school band from Northview Academy, this was their first time performing in front of judges.

Competitor, Josh Jones said “We’re all really excited because it’s the first competition, and they don’t know what to look up to– where we all have no seniors, so this is going to show them what they need to step up to”.

And they didn’t miss a beat. Competitors came from across Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and even western North Carolina for a chance to take home first place. The competition is an annual fundraiser for the hill topper band.
