NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – One person was killed in a shooting on Tennessee State University’s campus late Thursday night.

It happened just before 11 p.m. in a courtyard outside the Floyd Building. Metro police said they believe the shooting occurred after a dispute over a dice game.

The victim’s name was not immediately released, but police said they believe he was a 19-year-old man who wasn’t a student at the university and might have participated in the fight.

The other three victims were female students who were walking by at the time, police said.

Two of them were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The third woman did not need treatment. News 2 has learned one of the women has since been released while the other was last listed in stable condition.

Police said they expect her to recover.

TSU will resume its normal schedule of operations, including all activities, Kelli Sharpe, the university’s Assistant VP of Public Relations, said.

“The university does not have scheduled classes on Friday,” she said via email. “Classes are Monday through Thursday at the institution.”

Police didn’t immediately have a suspect description, but said several people recorded the incident on their cell phones.

Anyone with information on the deadly shooting is urged to call police at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
