JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The new Food City in Johnson City is now just hours away from opening it’s doors to the public and just moments ago, city officials cut the ribbon on the new facility.
The shelves are stocked and ready to go at the newest location on North State of Franklin Road, which replaced the Food City just down the street from it.
The new store is the largest Food City ever constructed from the ground up.
“We are excited to be opening this new state-of-the-art Food City, the largest we’ve ever constructed,” Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer, said. “Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, housed in a more energy efficient model that includes some great new services and conveniences.”
Earlier Tuesday, the Johnson City Food City made a significant donation to Good Samaritan Ministries, giving a tractor trailer full of food.
Food City also gave $200,000 to East Tennessee State University for the school’s new football stadium.
The 62,000 square-foot store will open to the public Wednesday morning.
