New student housing complex moves toward final approval in Johnson City

Johnson City commissioners are moving forward with plans to bring more student housing to the area.

It is a story we first brought you in September when Senior Planner for Johnson City, Angie Charles, said a developer out of North Carolina proposed building an apartment complex.

Charles said the complex would be made up of 132 units of 4, and 2 bedroom apartments off of West Walnut Street and McKinley Road.

That location is not far from the campus of ETSU.

On Thursday night commissioners unanimously approved rezoning that property to make it a high density residential area.

Commissioners also approved the concept plan.

We are told the project could get final approval as early as November.
