SUMNER COUNTY, TN (WKRN) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation charged an inmate with false report after they say he reported a sex act as assault when it was, in fact, consensual.
The TBI began investigating the allegation of assault on Aug. 24 when a corrections officer at the Sumner County jail saw what appeared to be two inmates engaged in a sex act inside their cell.
Authorities reportedly separated the inmates when Paul Smith told them he had been forced to participate in the sex act.
During the investigation, agents developed information that Smith was not truthful and the sex act was actually consensual.
The 21-year-old was charged on Oct. 6 with one count of false report. He remains incarcerated at the Sumner County jail on unrelated charges.
Special Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an indictment for a Sumner County man in connection to the investigation of an alleged sexual assault in the county’s jail.
