Kingsport Police Department offers safety tips for Halloween.

Parents are asked to plan accordingly because the darker the sky, the scarier the ride! All activities will be held at the Robert Young Cabin, adjacent to the Park and Recreation Administration Office at Winged Deer Park. Parking for the event will be at the Winged Deer Park Lakefront Festival Plaza off Carroll Creek Road.

Fossil 5K
Natural History Museum
Registration is under way for the second annual Fossil 5K to be hosted by the East Tennessee State University and General Shale Natural History Museum and Visitor Center at the Gray Fossil Site on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Fossil 5K will start and finish at the museum in Gray. Packet pick-up and registration will be Friday, Oct. 23, from 5-6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7-8:30 a.m. The race will begin at 9 a.m., rain or shine. Registration at www.runtricities.net is $20 in advance and $25 after Oct. 21. Those who register by Oct. 9 will receive an exclusive Fossil 5K T-shirt, and all participants will receive free admission to the museum. – Bass Pro Shops is hosting a free, fun, family-friendly Halloween event with the classic Peanuts™ characters, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Sally and Lucy October 24-31. The free event will feature activities including fun crafts for kids, a Halloween costume parade, trick-or-treating and much more at Bass Pro Shops locations.

The event includes:
Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25:
• Noon to 5:30 p.m. – Free 4×6 photo with life-size cutouts of Peanuts characters, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Sally and Lucy (photo packages also available for sale). First 100 kids to have a photo taken will receive a free LED flashing necklace.
• Noon to 5 p.m. – Free crafts for kids. Kids will have the opportunity to color a free garden tips booklet on Saturday and to decorate a felt jack-o-lantern on Sunday*.

Monday – Thursday, Oct. 26 through Oct. 28:

• 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Free crafts for kids. Kids will have the opportunity create a Halloween decoration. **
• 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Halloween trick-or-treating. Kids will trick or treat throughout the store.
•6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Costume Parade. Kids 12 and under can line up at 6 p.m. to show off their Halloween costume and receive a free glow-in-the-dark bucket. **

Traveling Exhibit, Our Body: The Universe Within – Extended through November 1st
The world-renowned exhibition, “Our Body: The Universe Within” is a limited-time, artful presentation consisting of actual human bodies and organs.

The display, which has been seen by millions in select cities, literally goes “under the skin”, revealing the mysteries of the human anatomy. The bodies, specimens and organs have been preserved using a process known as polymer impregnation so they can be viewed in a dignified, educational way.

As guests enter the exhibit, they will have the opportunity to examine the human body as a whole. Body-15-crop-246x300Continuing throughout the exhibit, they will journey through each of the body’s major systems seeing first hand how they function and relate to other systems as they view actual human bodies and specimens, see bones, blood vessels, nerves, muscles, hearts, livers…all of the human organs.

This extraordinary exhibition, appropriate for all ages, was designed to educate, enlighten, and allow all who attend to understand the complexities of our bodies and has only been available in major cities within the U.S. and abroad.

Our Body: The Universe Within and Hands On! Museum will have separate entrances. Guests may choose to visit one or both. Hours for the exhibit are: Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-6pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm.
