JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Federal investigators are now looking into threats made to three Tri-Cities Comcast offices.
Johnson City Police went to Comcast, 1794 Old Gray Station in Johnson City, Tuesday afternoon to investigate threatening letters that were mailed to the business.
A Comcast spokesman said threats also prompted the immediate evacuation of offices in Galax and Norton, Virginia.
Comcast closed the building, and police taped off the parking lot with crime scene tape.
Members of the JCPD Bomb Squad were spotted later Tuesday evening at Comcast. It is unclear at this time why the bomb squad responded to the scene.
“We are aware of recent threats made to Comcast employees at our Galax, Va., Norton, Va., and Gray, Tenn., offices,” Alex Horwitz, Comcast spokesperson, said earlier Tuesday afternoon. “We are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our employees and customers by evacuating these facilities immediately, and are working closely with local law enforcement. At this time, we are directing all additional media inquiries to authorities in Virginia and Tennessee, who are conducting an investigation.”
Johnson City Police said Tuesday night the case had been turned over to federal investigators.
