JCPD identifies victim in fatal Johnson City crash

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Johnson City Police Department officers have identified a pedestrian who died after being hit by a vehicle on North Roan Street near Indian Trail Intermediate School Wednesday afternoon.

According to a JCPD news release, officers responded to a crash on North Roan Street near the entrance to the school and Lambeth Drive just before 3 p.m.

When they arrived, the found a pedestrian — later identified as Charles Bowling, 63, of Johnson City — had been hit while attempting to cross North Roan Street.

According to the release, Crystal Dykes, 38, of Telford, had been traveling northbound on North Roan Street when she hit Bowling with her vehicle.

Police said Bowling died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash.

Officers learned that Dykes had a revoked driver’s license and was charged with driving on a revoked license.

Dykes was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she was being held on $1,000 bond.

She was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Thursday at 9 a.m.

According to the release, the JCPD Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. Speed and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
