2 injured after small plane crashes in South Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Two people were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday morning after a plane crashed in South Knoxville.

A Beech BE 35 aircraft, headed to Morristown Regional Airport, crashed in a field after departing from Knoxville Downtown Island Airport at 5:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to the FAA registry, the plane belonged to Christopher A. Landess of Knoxville.

Officers along with the Knoxville Fire Department responded to Riverside Drive around 7 a.m. after receiving reports of the downed plane.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
