MOUNTAIN CITY, TN (WJHL) – A counselor at Northeast Correctional Complex in Mountain City was taken for medical treatment Tuesday morning after an alleged assault by an inmate.
Tennessee Department of Corrections spokesman Robert Reburn said a “medium custody” inmate and the counselor were involved in what was described as a “verbal exchange” prior to the inmate hitting the counselor.
The counselor was sent to a local facility for treatment, but the extent of his or her injuries was not provided.
The inmate involved was separated from other inmates pending disciplinary action and prosecution for the assault.
The prison was not placed on lockdown.
