KNOXVILLE, TN — There are 127 teams at college football’s highest level, FBS. Six of those have led by at least 13 points in every game this year. Five of the six are undefeated. The other is 2-3 Tennessee.
That’s the reality of the Vols’ situation right now, but Tennessee has played well for at least part of every game.
This week’s opponent, Georgia, was blown off its home field Saturday by Alabama. Of course, the Bulldogs aren’t the concern at UT right now. It’s closing games and keeping the team together.
Coach Jones met with his upperclassmen Saturday night, and his message was clear.
“The truth of the matter is we are a good football team,” Jones said. “We’ve lost to three very, very good opponents. We’re seeing that now, over a period of time we’re seeing that. What are we 11 points away, but what are we doing to gain those 11 points.”
The Vols will try to get a little extra jolt Saturday afternoon with the debut of the Smokey Greys. This is the second straight Georgia game at Neyland Stadium where Tennessee has worn grey.
