JCPD: Convicted felon arrested after found with handgun during traffic stop

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Johnson City Police Department officers arrested an Elizabethton man Friday on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, following stop for a traffic violation.

According to a JCPD news release, officers stopped Joshua A. Pirtle, 27, 712 S. Watauga Ave., in a Buick Lucerne around 12:50 a.m. and they learned that he was on felony probation.

When officers searched the vehicle they found a loaded .45 caliber handgun inside the glove box of the car and a record check revealed that he had two prior felony convictions out of Carter County in 2010 and 2013.

Pirtle was arrested and taken to Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $10,000 bond.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Sessions Court on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
