Greene Co. inmate captured after escaping in sheriff’s dept. vehicle

A Greene County trustee inmate with just 15 days left before his release date escaped while washing cars Wednesday morning.

According to Greene County Sheriff Pat Hankins, 36-year-old Timothy West was washing cars at the DOT building where he found keys to a sheriff’s department vehicle and took off.

That was around 7:30 Wednesday morning.

Hankins tells us the escaped inmate then proceeded to Curtis Street in Greeneville where he then got into a black honda.

From there West made it to Jefferson County in the White Pine area where West’s girlfriend lives.

Jefferson County deputies ended up passing West in traffic and arrested him around 9:30 Wednesday morning.

Sheriff Hankins says West will now be charged with escape, driving on a revoked license, theft of a vehicle and other potential charges.

Hankins says West was in jail for previous drug charges.
